Jammy Conclusions & 1.1
Hey all! We're here with version 1.1 of BRAINWORM! A few things to note in gameplay.
UPDATE PATCH NOTES
Movement - Movement was a common issue with BRAINWORM. We've fixed this in two ways:
- Input Buffering - This should help you feel more in control of the snake for tight maneuvers. There's also a little handy-dandy head turn now to tell you which way wormy is going!
- Removing speed-up - We've removed the snake speeding up at 75/50/25 stability. Part of the control issues with it are the lack of consistency as you build flow during play.
Difficulty - We decided to add a slight bit of difficulty to the game! The three distinct difficulties alter Jerry's health, and your ending score.
Worm Graphics - We originally wanted the worm to have smooth movement, but didn't have enough time during the BGJ time limitations. So, wormy slithers now instead of teleports!
Macs & Tissue Spawning - So, fun thing about this: the reason we only observed it 50% of the time is in your gameplay style. I play aggressively, S. plays defensively. If you noticed Macs not appearing, it's because you hit the cap; at some point during development I removed the timer reset when you hit max. So, a dumb error has been fixed! Tissues now also work as they should, where before breaking the root would destroy the whole thing, it now breaks piecemeal!
Bugs and Visual Glitches - We noticed some issues from live streams of visual bugs, these should be fixed now! Some instances of this are: pausing when the stability remainder pops up (this hides on pause), some menu click issues with that, and one of the pre-game menus was slightly out of place (which should no longer be the case).
Some things to note: Godot 4.2 has some web performance issues that we looked into in regards to one of the comments. There's just some things we can't get around when it comes to engine-level issues; if you notice these issues, we offer the download as a potential solution. Macs are, unfortunately, too much of a walled garden and trying to work with that hardware on our own is difficult. Godot 4.4 should address this, but we'll have to rebuild the game from the ground up as our sound library, Resonate, is not guaranteed to work in 4.4.
That's all for now though! Thank you for taking the time to read and play our game. Thanks to all the jammers who participated in the Godot Wild Jam and Brackey's Game Jam who left feedback. For now, we're going to work on overhauling HEAD HONCHO (which, as our first game, is a massive quality jump between just it and our second game, KATAMARI MEATBALL) and KALEIDOKILL.
